My review
rating: 1 of 5 starswhat a colossal waste of time and space this book is. if it weren't for the success of the first three, this book never would have seen the light of day because no one in their right mind would publish this craap. i enjoyed the first three and had literally zero expectations for this one, other than i hoped jacob ended up with someone other than bella, because he deserves better.
to be honest, i am surprised to see so many of my otherwise intelligent friends raving about this book. i've said all along that i don't think sm is a good writer, nor do i love her heroine, but yet, somehow i could not stop reading 1-3 and enjoying them despite myself. this however, broke the mold.

:( I know, I know, I know. I read crazy, nasty reviews before I started reading it and was like, wow. I decided I'd read it (I had to anyway, pah!) with no expectations. What I wanted for the story didn't matter. I wanted it to be good. I'm sad that I hate the book and I feel really bad for Stephanie Meyers too because if she puts out another book it's going to have to be AMAZING. Maybe she should have saved The Host to be published about now? Oh dear.
*sigh* Ok. I'm wading in! I liked it. One of my favorites of all time? No. Amazing? No. But it was a solid ending to a story left dangling. I liked the ending. I liked the resolutions and I thought it was, overall, a solid story on par with the rest of her books.
I'm really surprised that the expectation for this one was so high. She didn't do anything really fantastical with the characters before this either.
Anyway! Just my two cents. And Tara! Post more! I miss you.
Okay, I see your point, but I think your analysis is a little harsh. The book was enjoyable, and I appreciated the happy ending and that everything was wrapped up nicely. It may not win any awards (the battle at the end dragged on forever, she could've delved much deeper into Bella's unusual powers, etc.), but she gave her fans what they wanted. As far as her not being a good writer, if she isn't, then why I am not able to put her books down until I get to the very end??
Hope you're having fun!
I'm struggling through book 3 still because Bella bugs. I would read book 4 except I would probably just end up "glowering" at everyone.
(I wish I had a dime for every time SM used "glowered" in her books.)
I've never read any of the books beyond an occasional glance while they scoot across my desk, during which I shake my head at the angsty, overdramatic run-on sentences the like of which I am now writing.
I can say this, however; on each of the book's release dates I have seen more fingerless Madonna gloves, chokers, and black eye shadow than when I went to see the Cure for their Wish tour in 1992.
That tells me all I need to know about the content, so I will never read them. But I am glad to see so many teenagers reading, even if it is trite garbage.
