question of the day

i'm a big fan of christmas cards (even though the laziness of recent years may not convince you).  i'm also a big fan of photos.

seems obvious that i would be a fan of photo christmas cards.

but photo christmas cards are made for families (you know what i mean), and i am a family of 'me'. which of course, is not to say that i don't have family, but that at 34, with both siblings balled and chained and babied up, the  'parents and brothers and sisters' card (geographically, if for no other reason) is long since past it's prime.

the 'me and the dog' thing just seems kind of...sad.  and the 'just me' thing seems kind of...vain.  so i want to know if any of you creative types have any great ideas as to how i can actually pull off a photo christmas card without falling into either trap?

help. please.

Maybe a travelogue approach? Lots of little memory/detail photos with you in an overlay?

Just the first thing that came to mind. I'll mull and see if I have any other ideas to contribute but that may be a nice way to get out of a more detailed letter-thingy.

Oh Tara, I totally know what you mean, but... I've seen many friends do it, and I love it -- whether the person is single or has "family."

Either way, I actually am not a fan of the photo Christmas card when it's just a picture of people. Where's Santa? Or a tree? Or something interesting for me to look at instead of a just a family in matching jean shirts and khakis in front of haystacks?
I think ALL of the Christmas photos could use a little more creativity. My favorites are the ones that tell me a little about the person's experiences or the lives of the people in the pictures. Or something that just screams "them."
And now that I think about it... maybe the boring people are those who tend to send the boring picture cards, so maybe it's their lives - not just their pictures - that need some more pizazz.

I always wanted to do a photo with me and my pets (but I was too lazy). Who cares if it seemed "vain." How would my picture of me and my "family" be any more or less vain than the children-filled homes that send pictures?

Send us a pic! Let me know if you need my address! :)

I loved this girls' christmas photo she sent out a few years ago. I think she lives in SF. Maybe something with your awesome beach cruiser? http://emilystyle.blogspot.com/2006/12/advent-calendar-december-21.html

I can't remember which photo card site it was, but some of them offer a timeline card, which has room for small photos and highlights of your year. I think that would be way fun.
