new year

with every new year comes a renewed intent to be better about documenting life.  so, we'll see how long it lasts.

for the most part, i've refrained from making any other resolutions, but this quote (below), from howard w. hunter keeps reappearing in my life.  i used it in a sacrament talk in early december, and since then, i've heard several other people in a variety of locations and circumstances use the same quote.  it's from a fourteen year old talk, so it's particularly interesting to have it repeated so often in the course of the last four weeks.  but one thing i've learned about myself...repetition tends to be the most common way i receive inspiration.  and, if i can follow each of it's admonitions, i will consider 2016 both successful and meaningful.

mend a quarrel. seek out a forgotten friend. dismiss suspicion and replace it with trust. write a letter. give a soft answer. encourage youth. manifest your loyalty in word and deed. keep a promise. forgo a grudge. forgive an enemy. apologize. try to understand. examine your demands on others. think first of someone else. be kind. be gentle. laugh a little more. express your gratitude. welcome a stranger. gladden the heart of a child. take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of the earth. speak your love and then speak it again.
