it's been awhile

since i posted my latest movie reviews. and lost is a rerun, so here i am waiting for women's aerials to come back on (i've been remarkably bored by speed skating this olympics).

and i'm confusing myself with the whole bucket thing i started--it's true, i'm not that bright. so i am going to revert to the 'standard' method of measurement.

alexander: (what a waste of jared leto's beauty)
brokeback mountain: (for the cinematography and jake gyllenhall)
aviator:
cellular: (surprisingly entertaining)
a very long engagement: (if you like foreign films)
coach carter: (but i am a sucker for a bball movie)
dreamer: (oh my goodness did i bawl my eyes out)
pride & predjudice: (keira did it 'proud')

This makes me feel like I never see any movies. Although most of mine are of the animated variety with a certain 5 year old :)
I really liked Coach Carter too.
But I wanted way more out of Brokeback Mountain with all hype it is getting. The Rocky Mountains were awesome but I did not enjoy the story at all. I really wanted at least a good love story and it just wasn't.

Ok. Darling! I couldn't disagree more with your Pride and Prejudice rating. It thought it sucked! A&E forever!!

I'm with Steph sort of. I give the P&P about a 2.5 stars.

I am possibly the biggest P&P fan ever, and I fell asleep in the Keira Knightley version. But I will say that it was beautifully filmed, and KK did a good job. But, it just wasn't "Austen" enough for me.

oh my goodness. you mean there are actually people who disagree with me? say it ain't so!;)

i am also a huge fan of the colin firth version of p&p, and i had very low expectations for this one. that always helps. but even aside from that, i found it extrememly enjoyable. e-i actually thought it was more 'jane austen' then the other one, so we'll have to discuss that further at yoga tonight (yay!)

i still love the old standby p&p, liking this one does not change that. the are two seperate entitites in my head.

I love P&P too much to hate the KK version, and the guy that played Mr. Darcy (while no Colin Firth!) was definitely worth the watch for me. In fact, I'll probably buy it for that very reason. I spent the entire movie wanting KK to be Jennifer Ehle, however :-P I do think they did a nice job making a shorter version, though.

Keira did a good job all things consitered - I tend to refer to this version as P&P Lite - great if you know the story already inside and out, but way too fast if you dont know and understand the charactor interactions.
Tend to agree with Gwen on the buying it - though more from Keira than Darcy :)

Oh, and A Very Long Engagement was a beautiful film - from the stylistic cinematography, use of colors and heart touching story. Might have the best done love scene of any movie.

you're right, the love story in engagement was very tender. it moved a little bit slow for me, which is the only reason i didn't give it a higher rating. tatou did an amazing job.

and good call on p&p lite--that is an excellent way to assess it. i might steal that description!
